Pumpkin Protein Treat

This Pumpkin Protein Treat was something I tried this fall to see if I could make up my own recipe! I wanted a milkshake instead of the usual green smoothie I use for breakfast, and this was in the evening. I have a friend who loves milkshakes and I was hit with the bug. She and one of my relatives have diabetes, and I learned that having protein with or in place of food helps blood sugar. Protein keeps blood sugar from going too high too fast and therefore causing a crash when it heads in the downward direction.

Seasonally, I like to visit the local fast food joint that has pumpkin milkshakes. They are so good! However, They aren’t the healthiest thing to consume. I was craving one when I thought, “Hey! I think I have all the ingredients here at home!” Using some canned pumpkin that I hadn’t used after opening the can and had frozen, was perfect to add! My sister was in town and insisted we get some pumpkin whipped cream, so I used that too. Okay, I will just list it all:

Ingredients of Pumpkin Protein Treat

Pumpkin Protein Treat

Orgain Pumpkin Spice Latte protein powder – 2 scoops

Almond Milk – enough to thin

Tillamook Vanilla ice cream – 1 to 1 1/2 scoops

Pumpkin spice – a dash or shake or two

Mix above in a blender, then top with:

Pumpkin whipped cream

Maraschino cherry of course!

Okay, I will admit, this was not as delicious as the fast food milkshake. HOWEVER, I know all of the ingredients that went into it and I’m sure it was MUCH more healthy than those chemical-laden foods in the fast category! I felt better about that. I have not quite been a junk food junkie, like getting fast food frequently, but I do eat everything. The kinds of diets that limit categories of foods or entire food groups do not interest me.

By the way, I do not drink coffee, so I really checked out the label on the protein powder. It may have said latte, but there were no coffee or tea ingredients listed. I am making more of my own foods since I have called myself “not a cook” and am enjoying the experience. Are you looking for ways to curb your appetite? I have found a secret but I will certainly share it with you! Just visit this page and look for the “red package” listed there. It is one of the most Powerful Appetite Suppressants I have ever had! Seriously, I took it with breakfast and had to remind myself to eat dinner!

Dinnertime?

Having to remind myself to eat dinner is HUGE, as I don’t usually miss dinner. Ha ha! This is one of the reasons I am trying to eat better. Having a protein treat is not usually what I do… so far. Turning the corner away from bad eating is not always easy, but step by step, it is possible. Speaking of step by step, I started walking outside again today before the rain came back. A pair of smaller dogs started chasing me, trying to bite my ankles, but I was able to get away without a bite. Attempting to better my health was risky this morning!

I did not make a pumpkin treat after getting home, just my regular green smoothie with protein. But my adrenaline was still pumping a bit, so I jumped on my mini trampoline to get the extra energy out. The red package I spoke of earlier went into my smoothie, and food is NOT on my mind! Amazing!! I won’t be hungry for many more hours. Just taking one day at a time for now and making better choices.
